The Gedung Sate is an Art Deco historical building in the City of Bandung. The building is also designated as National Historic Landmark of the West Java Province. During the Dutch occupancy in Indonesia, the Building was named Gouvernements Bedrijven (GB). The original construction of the building was designed by a team of young architects, J. Gerber, D. Roo, and G. Hendricks and VL. Slors. Over 2000 workers worked on the project, among them 150 skillful stone and wood craftsmen from China Province of Canton. Groundbreaking of the Gedung Sate took place on July 27, 1920 by the oldest daughter of Mayor B. Coops, Catherina Coops, representing Governor J.P Graaf va Limburg Stirum. |
